Why we think this is a classy wine to drink

The Yangarra Old Vine Grenache 2016 is a great McLaren Vale Old Vine Grenache from 70 year old vines made by 5 star winery, Yangarra, in the McLaren Vale.  This red wine is great to pair with lamb, BBQ foods and richer spicy Asian dishes.

A delicious medium-to-full-bodied Grenache wine that is young and tactile. Offering flavours of ripe raspberries, concentrated cherries, red currants, spice, meat and cloves all combined with chewy tannins. Sourced from the 5 star biodynamic Yangarra winery in the McLaren Vale, producers of excellent Grenache and southern Rhone varietal wines. Awarded 95 points by Toni Patterson MW, and 93 points by James Suckling for the 2015 vintage.

About The Winery

Yangarra Estate is a biodynamic winery in Kangarilla in the McLaren Vale. Planting here first happened in 1946 when the property was called Laila Rookh ("love nest"). Bernard Smart, still living on Yangarra, helped his father plant the High Sands vineyard with Grenache bush vines. In 2001, the property was purchased by Jess Jackson and Barbara Banke who were looking for a world-class Shiraz and Grenache vineyard.

The Yangarra philosophy centres around producing wines from the single-vineyard estate, where the bush-vine Grenache is the keystone variety. With McLaren Vale having one of the best "Mediterranean" climates Yangarra Estate is devoted to producing wines from the best grape varieties of the southern Rhone in France. Yangarra’s combination of rare geologies, moderate altitude, abundant sunshine and cool evening breezes make it perfect for growing varieties that thrive in these moderate maritime environments.

Today there are 100 hectares of vineyards at Yangarra across 35 individual blocks. Grenache, Shiraz, Mataro, Cinsault, and Carignan are the key red varieties while Roussanne and Viognier are the major white varieties. Developing plantings of Tempranillo, Graciano, Terret noir, Vaccarèse, Counoise, Muscardin, and Piquepoul noir are completing the red varietal roster, with plantings of Bourboulenc, Clairette and Picpoul blanc filling out the white side.
