Why we think this is a classy wine to drink

Oak Red Fruits Spice Tannin

  • This is simply a wonderfully priced entry into Italian Nebbiolo wine from its home in Piedmont. The grapes for this wine are grown in Langhe in north-west Italy, near the Barbaresco and Barolo regions
  • Sourced from the Sarotto winery which has been in production since the early 18th century. This wine spends 12 months in oak as well as 8 months in stainless steel prior to bottling to successfully mellow the wine and the tannins of Nebbiolo

  • Ruby red in colour with an intense bouquet of small red berries (currants, raspberry) and sweet spices. Not overly tannic for Nebbiolo, it has a long smooth finish
  • This lovely Nebbiolo can be enjoyed with rich red meat dishes and game

About The Winery

The Sarotto winery sits 400m ASL in the town of Nevigle in central Piedmont. Located a few kilometres east of the city of Alba and famous Nebbiolo region of Barbaresco.

The Sarotto family settled in Neviglie at the end of 1700s with the birth of patriarch Giuseppe Sarotto. WInemaking since this time at the winery has seen the expansion of the winery's range of wines and size of operation.

During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the Sarotto family focused on producing Dolcetto and export markets around Europe and the UK. From the 1950s new varieties such as Moscato, Freisa and Barbera were planted with grapes sold to dealers until the early 1980s. With Roberto Sarotto taking helm at the winery, since 1991 all grapes grown on their estates are vinified in the winery. In 1991 the range of wines produced was extended with the purchase of a 20 hectare farm in Barolo.

Further varieties have since been introduced, including Arneis, Chardonnay, Bracchetto, Nebbiolo (for the production of Barbaresco as well as Barolo), and also Cabernet Sauvignon.

The winery has a storage capacity of around 5,000 hectolitres, including 800hl in wood.
