Why we think this is a classy wine to drink
- Only 15% of wines made in Bergerac, a large wine region inland east of Bordeaux, make it outside of France so this Bergerac red wine is a rare treat.
- This Bergerac Merlot-Cabernet Sauvignon blend red wine is sourced from Vignobles Pierre Sadoux. Pierre settled in this 17th century estate in Bergerac in 1961. The estate is located on the slopes of the left bank of the Dordogne river. Since 2007, Pierre's son has led the winemaking at this 54 hectare property.
- A powerful Bergerac that spent over 12 months in barrel yet is made to drink in its youth - great for the next 2 years. A full-bodied Merlot (60%) Cabernet Sauvignon (40%) red blend that is great with grilled red meats, wild game, veal and chicken breast.
- A strong deep red colour that almost goes to violet. Aromas of raspberries, blackcurrants and spice dominate. The combination of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon give this wine a full and strong taste of red and black fruits, hints of licorice, chocolate and spice. Overall, the wine is very balanced with round tannins, and a long, strong finish.
- Won 2 Gold Medals against its peers at Grand Vins de France show in Macon and at the Concours de Bordeaux wine show.
