Why we think this is a classy wine to drink

Chocolate Coffee Cassis Blackcurrant Black Fruits Vanilla Oak

  • An impeccable 'Super Tuscan' at the level of a Bordeaux First Growth. Solengo is Tuscan for “lone wild boar”. A Super Tuscan as whilst the grapes are grown in Tuscany, the wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Merlot - grapes not materially permitted in any Tuscan wine classifications like Chianti or Brunello.
  • The 2015 Solengo was awarded an astonishing 97 points by James Suckling!
  • A modern, well-balanced and full-bodied wine. It is deep, dark purple in colour with a bouquet of ripe fruit, such as blackcurrants and blackberries, with a hint of toasted oak. According to James Suckling, it has "Fantastic floral aromas evoking violet and rose, with dark purple fruits and a hint of stone, too. Well-bodied, with ultra-fine tannins and a long, linear finish. Here we are back to the great Solengos of the mid-1990s. The best since 1997".
  • This can be consumed young or can age for 15+ years. Perfectly pairs with grilled red meats and rich game dishes.

About The Winery

The Argiano winery is located south of the town of Montalcino in the heart of Tuscany, Italy.

Argiano has been making wine in the region for centuries. Around 1580 its impressive Renaissance villa was built, with accompanying wine cellar.

Over the years, the 'cantina' and the villa regularly changed hands, but Argiano continued to play a role in wine history. For example, in 1967 the house was one of the founders of the Consortium for the Brunello wines. Under the leadership of Countess Noemi Maroni Cinzano, numerous technological innovations have been implemented since 1992: the renowned oenologist Giacomo Tachis, known from Sassicaia and Tignanello, was attracted and helped with developing, among others, the Solengo and Suolo wines.

Since the beginning of 2013 the winery has been owned by a Brazilian businessmen, but Professor Tachis is still involved with the dedicated team of winemakers.
