Why we think this is a classy wine to drink

The Argiano Brunello di Montalcino 2014 is Sangiovese royalty from the prestigious Brunello di Montalcino region, and the wonderful Argiano winery which has been making wines in this area for centuries: their main villa was built in 1580! Giacomo Tachis, known for SuperTuscan wines Sassicaia and Tignanello, is intimately involved in winemaking at Argiano.

The 2014 Argiano Brunello di Montalcino was matured for 4 years before release - 12 months in small oak barrels to impart structure, 12 months in large Slavonic oak to settle the wine and further time in bottle. The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino was awarded 96 points by James Suckling and 93 points by Wine Enthusiast. James Suckling noting "Fantastic aromas of orange peel and dark berry with plenty of plum and cherry. Sweet tobacco and mushrooms. Full body, juicy and fruity with firm tannins and a fresh finish. Complex and gorgeous. Fine and very long".

This premium Italian Sangiovese is destined to cellar well for 10+ years if you can hold back. This Argiano wine is made to accompany rich dishes - try strong red meat dishes, heavier poultry dishes or rich cheese.

About The Winery

The Argiano winery is located south of the town of Montalcino in the heart of Tuscany, Italy.

Argiano has been making wine in the region for centuries. Around 1580 its impressive Renaissance villa was built, with accompanying wine cellar.

Over the years, the 'cantina' and the villa regularly changed hands, but Argiano continued to play a role in wine history. For example, in 1967 the house was one of the founders of the Consortium for the Brunello wines. Under the leadership of Countess Noemi Maroni Cinzano, numerous technological innovations have been implemented since 1992: the renowned oenologist Giacomo Tachis, known from Sassicaia and Tignanello, was attracted and helped with developing, among others, the Solengo and Suolo wines.

Since the beginning of 2013 the winery has been owned by a Brazilian businessmen, but Professor Tachis is still involved with the dedicated team of winemakers.
