Why we think this is a classy wine to drink
- Sourced from Chateau Cabannieux in the premium Graves region of Bordeaux, this French white wine is made from 80% Semillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc on 30 year old vines.
- From the sandier soils in the Graves region, the white wines were vinified 75% in stainless steel tanks and 25% in new oak barrels for 4 to 6 months to give more body and complexity. This blending provides a potential for aging over several years.
- In its youth floral and fruity aromas abound whilst, with age, the Semillon brings roundness. A powerful shiny green gold colour with attractive fragrances of citrus, apple, pineapple, yellow plum, blossom and a fraction of chalk. Juicy and refreshing on the palate with citrus, green apples and pineapples. Concentrated and excellent balance means this will age for another 7 years.
- Consume with grilled crustaceans or everything from the sea, white meats and soft cheeses.
About The Winery
The Cabannieux castle is a very old family property. In the "Feret" (encyclopedic directory of the Châteaux of Bordeaux) Cabannieux appears from 1874 as "First Category" and then in 1881 as "Cru Exceptionnel". In 1939 their white wines were chosen by the County Committee to represent Graves' white wines at the New York World's Fair. The pure quality has earned Chateau Cabannieux many medals at the Paris, Bordeaux and Mâcon contests.
